Happy Social Media Day!

Today is “Social Media Day” around the world. Over 5,000 people have registered to attend the 500 meet-ups across the world, and even more are expected to attend. Here is a message from the CEO of one of the world’s most popular websites (and social media thought-leader), Pete Cashmore of Mashable.com:

I am so happy to see this type of thing happening, as social media is being transformed daily. I strongly believe that social media is NOT just another platform where we share stuff, but a fundamental shift in the way that we communicate as human beings. In the next 10 years, I foresee more digital agencies filled with younger social media experts, social media meet-ups becoming the new business lunch, and geolocation-based platforms like Foursquare (who just locked in $20 Million in venture capital) leading the mobile-web traffic rankings.
